THUMP gallery is part art studio, musical jam space, handmade shop, veggie garden and mostly a clubhouse, where I am lucky enough to work as artist-in-residence.
THUMP was created in 2009 by the ridiculously talented Torie Smith (helicopter pilot, seamstress, art collector, craftswoman of all kinds) and her dashingly handsome husband, Greg (actor, contractor, inventor, can build or fix anything).
A pair to be secretly envied and genuinely admired.
I was one of the first artists to have a show here, and fell in love with the space, immmediately conspiring with Torie about all kinds of super fun art events we could hold here.
We showed new artists each month, had weekly project nights, outdoor movie showings (with custom photo backdrops and costumes encouraged), taught sewing and gardening classes- all with the idea in mind to encourage an outlet for creativity in our community.
This past December, the planets aligned, and I was able to move my art studio to THUMP and begin working here as artist-in-residence. There has been such amazing collaborative and artistic energy brewing here, it cannot be contained.
It is my hope that sharing it with you will inspire your own dreams: to draw and paint, play music, grow a garden, write a story...to make your life your art.
